Lester U. LaBar, 84, of Middle Smithfield Twp., died Friday at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Doris Lesoine LaBar, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage on April 23, 2012.

Born Sept. 16, 1928, in Analomink, son of the late Russell C. and Mary Yaggie LaBar, he grew up in Craigs Meadows and was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.

He worked at Worthington Mower as a machinist and later at Patterson-Kelly, from where he retired in 1990. He was also the third generation in the family business of wallpaper hanging and painting, of which he also taught adult education classes at Monroe County Vo-Tech School.

Lester was a member of Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church, where he was a trustee and served on the cemetery board. He was also a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 1106, Stroudsburg.

Also surviving are a daughter, Donna LaBar Long and husband, Scott, Moscow; a sister, Miriam Smith, Telford; three nephews, Steve Smith and wife, Pam, Telford; Todd LaBar and wife, Brenda, Bangor; and Mark LaBar and wife, Donna, Stroudsburg; a grandniece, Erin Curtolo and husband, Phil, Nazareth; two grandnephews, Jason Smith and wife, Andrea, Nazareth; and Michael Smith, Hatfield; a great-grandniece and great-grandnephew, Talia and Nathan Curtolo; and an uncle, Raymond LaBar, Craigs Meadows.

He was also preceded in death by his infant son, David L. LaBar; a brother, Russell C. LaBar Jr. and Russell's longtime companion, Beth Fisher; a sister, Helen LaBar; a brother-in-law, Elwood J. Smith; and a nephew, James R. Smith.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main St., Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Brower officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Smithfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
