Mary Jankauskas, age 93, of Carbondale, died early Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013, at the Hospice Community Care, Dunmore.

Mary was born Oct. 12, 1919, in Carbondale to Antonio and Josephine Grecco Pantano, who immigrated to the United States from Canicatti, Sicily. She worked for many years in the garment industry and was an excellent seamstress.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, whose family meant everything to her. She was an exceptional cook and enjoyed making traditional Italian meals and pastries for her family. Mary always cared for others and shared her kind and loving spirit with everyone she met. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale, she prayed the rosary daily and was devoted to the Blessed Mother.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Rose Pettinato and Josephine Scalzo, both of Carbondale; brother, Angelo Pantano and wife, Ceil, of Jessup; son, Edward Jankauskas and wife, Marilyn, of Newton Lake; son, Joseph Jakauskas of Dacula, Ga.; grandson, Edward Jankauskas of Jessup; grandson, Christopher Jankauskas and wife, Monica, of Greenfield Twp.; grandson, Justin Jankauskas and wife, Jennifer, of Hoschton, Ga.; and great-granddaughters, Katie and Carley Jankauskas.

Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jankauskas; daughter, Joann; two brothers, Lawrence and Joseph Pantano; sister, Grace Pagliaro; and daughter-in-law, Judith Molinaro Jankauskas.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Enrico Serine; the staff of the Carbondale Nursing Home, especially Joan, Brenda and Heather for all the years of excellent care they gave Mary; and the staff at Hospice Comminity Care of Dunmore for their kindness and support in her final days.
