Frances Ann Matthews, 88, formerly of Hamlin, a resident of the Lackawanna Health and rehab Center, Peckville, died early March 29. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Henry E. Matthews.

She was born in Jessup and was the daughter of the late Ettore and Louisa Meneli Fantini. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by ACME Markets for 24 years.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She was also a loving friend and neighbor who was known as "Nana" to most. Along with her devotion to family and friends, she will be remembered for her wonderful spaghetti sauce and angel food cake. She will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who knew her.

Frances's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center, especially the staff of 2C for the wonderful care and friendship that they shared with her. They made Frances feel like family and she loved them as family.

The family would also like to express their gratitude to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care, compassion and friendship.

Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Rusin and her husband, Joseph of Hamlin; son, Hank Matthews and his wife, Kathy of Scranton; four grandchildren, Joseph Rusin III and his wife, Kara; Stephen Rusin and his wife, Kristy; Michele Valentino and her husband, Nick; and Nicole Matthews; five great-grandchildren, Faith, Nikolas and Khloe Rusin, and Luke and Lila Rusin; a sister, Theresa Stackowski and her husband, John of Connecticut; several nieces and nephews; cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Fernanda Casal and Manuel Casal; a niece; nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 8:50 a.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Thomas More Church, 105 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup.
