The Guest Book is expired.

Gary "Cheese" Lancia, 56, of Dunmore, died Friday morning at home. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Wassel. The couple would of celebrated 35 years of marriage on June 2.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Salvatore J. Lancia, Dunmore, and the late Anne Kolsovsky Lancia. He was a 1975 graduate of Dunmore High School and a corporal in the Marine Corps. He was a wood craftsman and the owner of L-Wood products.

Gary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with chronic Lyme disease. Before his illness, he was an Eagle Scout and coached the L-Wood Product's Missy League's softball team. He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved to travel. He was a distinguished guitar player and was a Bob Dylan fan. Friends of Gary knew that the label "wood craftsman" was an understatement for how spiritually driven he was through his woodwork, but his greatest gift was the ability to make people laugh. Although his illness was debilitating, it did not take away his sense of humor or his love for his family.

Also surviving are a son, David Sartor, Dunmore; daughters, Ashley Lancia, Dunmore; Sierra Morano and husband, Jayme; and Tiffany Lancia, all of Olyphant; a grandson, Hunter Lancia; a brother, Sam Lancia and wife, Helen, Stroudsburg; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a service at 10 a.m. in Assembly of God Church, 3364 Business Route 6, Blakely. Interment, St. Michael's Cemetery, Jessup.

Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
