Leonard C. Benfante, 80, Dunmore, died Saturday at home. He and his wife, the former Mary Ann Nole, celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary June 1.

Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late James Louis Benfante and Gaetana Falzone Benfante Carlucci and stepson of the late Joseph Carlucci. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and the University of Scranton, where he earned a degree in business. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Before retirement, he was employed at Tobyhanna Army Depot and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore, its Holy Name Society and the Smith Street Social Club.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mary Lynn Benfante and husband, Thomas Walsh, Dunmore; Tana Ferguson and husband, attorney Joseph Ferguson, Dunmore; and Jean Benfante and husband, James Lansing, East Stroudsburg; a son, James Benfante and companion, Amy Orzel, Scranton; grandchildren, Christopher, Cara, Mary Grace and Natalie Walsh; Vita Tully and her father, Charles Tully; Thomas, Holly, Samantha, Mary and Joseph Ferguson; Kristy, James and Leonard Benfante and their mother, Cheri Benfante; Samuel Benfante and Angela Orzel; a sister, Jane Sciartilli and husband, Angelo, Dunmore; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Gerard Ferguson.
The funeral will be Thursday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
