Rosemarie Sciortino Christian, R.N., of the Keyser Valley section of Scranton, died Sunday morning at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pa. She and her husband, John Christian, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on Dec. 26.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Giordano Sciortino, she was educated in New York City schools and was a graduate of Walton High School. She became a registered nurse following her graduation from the Flower of Fifth Avenue School of Nursing. She also obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing education from New York University. Before retirement, she was employed for 10 years as the head of the pediatric department at the Flower of Fifth Avenue Hospital of New York. She later made her residence in Scranton and was employed as the school nurse at Bishop Hannan High School from 1980 to 1990. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Scranton. She was a volunteer for RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program).
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was a wonderful cook; she was a talented seamstress making many Halloween outfits for her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa Marie Owens and husband, Thomas, Scranton; two sons, John, Scranton; and Dr. Damian, North Ridge, Calif.; two grandchildren, Alyssa Owens and Christian Owens; a brother, Joseph Sciortino and wife, Arlene, Floral Park, N.Y.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ross and Bernard Sciortino; and an aunt and good friend, Marie Christian.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street, Scranton. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Friends may call today, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Community Care, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510.
