Joseph E. Petroziello, 71, Throop, died Tuesday at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Joan Buranich.

Born in Scranton on May 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Vincent and Eleanor Blasko Petroziello. He was a resident of Throop for the past 47 years and was retired from the maintenance department at the University of Scranton. He was educated in the Scranton school district and he did a six-month tour of duty in the Army and served in the Army Reserve for 12 years. Joseph was a life member of the former Eclipse Hose Company of Dunmore and SS. Anthony and Rocco Church, Dunmore.

Joe loved watching his son, Joey, and the local boys growing up playing baseball in Throop and was known to all as "Papa Joe."

The family would like to thank Dr. Nicole Asher and Dr. Emma Rubin and all the nurses and staff at Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, third-floor south, for the kindness and compassion they showed Joseph during his stay; special thanks to Frank Gosko for always being there to answer our many calls for help.

He is also survived by a daughter, attorney JoAnn and husband, Kevin Collins, Harrisburg; son, Joseph M. and fiancée, Nicole Asher, Philadelphia; four sisters, Joan Perry, Tampa, Fla.; Jewel Petroziello, Dunmore; Dolores Clark, Scranton; and Ann Marie Willis, Old Forge; and three brothers, Alfonso, Scranton; Ronald, Scranton; and David, Elmhurst.
