Mary Kathryn Brennan Kalowsky, 75, of Peckville, died on Friday at Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, Dunmore after recently being diagnosed with ALS. Her husband, W. William, died on April 19 of this year. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2011.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a resident of Peckville since 1972 following several tours of duty with her husband, prior to his retirement as a U.S. Naval officer. She was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Anna E. Fisher Brennan. A graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre, she received a Bachelor's Degree from Misericordia College and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Wilkes-Barre.

Earlier in her career, she taught clinical nursing at St. Raphael's Hospital, New Haven, Conn. After raising her children, she returned to nursing as an R.N. at Lackawanna County Health Care Center, Peckville, until retirement.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville, its Altar Rosary Society and served as a Eucharistic minister and lector.

Mary possessed a strong faith in God and church. Her greatest accomplishments were her children and their achievements. They in turn provided her with six cherished and loving grandchildren.

Mary loved all dogs since a young child and a dog was always a part of her family. She was also an antique enthusiast.

The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Mary's Villa and Hospice Community Care for their compassionate care.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Mary Sutton, Esq. and husband, John, Ph.D. of Potomac, Md.; a son, Capt. James K. Kalowsky, U.S.N. and wife, Kristina of Portsmouth, N.H.; two sisters, Alethea Brennan of Wilkes-Barre; and Anne Brennan of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, James, Teresa, Grace, William and Mary Kalowsky, and Lauryn Sutton; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Brennan Lee.

Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willow Street, Peckville. Msgr. Peter P. Madus, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

There will be no public viewing hours, per Mary's wishes.
