Leona E. Zelno

Leona E. Zelno, 90, of Eynon, died Tuesday at Lackawanna Health Care Center, Sturges. She was the widow of Joseph Zelno, who died in 1987.

Born in Eynon on Aug. 20, 1923, daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred Vaverchak Sublisky, she was a member of Christ the King Parish and attended St. Mary of Czestochowa Church and was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a graduate of Fell High School and faithfully attended their class reunions. She worked in Newark Shipyards during World War II and was a retired employee of Time Warner Specialty Records, Olyphant. She enjoyed going fishing with her husband to Lake Henry and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who looked forward to cooking Sunday dinner for her family.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the VNA Hospice for the loving care they gave Leona during her illness.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna Carroll, Germantown, Md.; a son, Joseph Zelno, Eynon; a sister, Margretta Stachura, Holmdel, N.J.; a brother, Linus Sublisky, Dickson City; four grandchildren, Jason Zelno and his wife, Lisa; Jennifer Jarosinski and her husband, Ben; and Jeremy and Amanda Carroll; five great-grandchildren, Josh, Jason, Justin, Joey and Juliana; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Mill; a brother, Joseph Sublisky; and a nephew, Herbert Mill.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Main Street, Eynon. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Twp.
