Gerald M. "Jerry" Zabielski, 68, of Starke, Fla., and formerly of West Scranton, died Feb. 20 in the Gainesville VA Medical Center of Florida. He and his wife, the former Pat Caparo, celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary May 11.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Chester and Alice Grimm Zabielski, he attended Scranton schools, and later made his residence in Somerville, N.J. He was a graduate of Somerville High School of New Jersey. Before his retirement, he was employed as a certified nurses aide, working at Moses Taylor Hospital of Scranton. He served in the Navy and as a medic with the 1st Battalion/109th Infantry 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard, retiring as staff sergeant with a combined total of 31 years of service.
He was an active member of the VFW, American Legion, and AMVETS, DAV, both in Pennsylvania and in Florida. In Florida, he served as post commander of the VFW. He also volunteered for the American Red Cross, specializing in CPR.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeff, Jermyn; and Tim, Dupont; a daughter, Nicole Boice, Benton; a grandson, Nathan Zabielski, Jermyn; a sister, Nancy Delivorias, Peabody, Mass.; a brother, Don, Las Vegas; nieces and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bob Zabielski.
Relatives and friends may visit Jerry's family Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton.
