Albert G. Kuehnapfel

Albert G. Kuehnapfel, 87, of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, Lake Ariel, died Tuesday at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. His wife of 66 years is the former Miriam Lola Battistin.

Born in Jersey City, N.J., son of the late Albert C. Kuehnapfel and Clara Coombs Zintel, he earned a college diploma and a master's degree in mathematics, and was a math teacher at Pascack Valley High School, Hillsdale, N.J.

Albert had a love of flying, and earned a private pilot's license at age 16. Upon graduation from high school in 1945, he joined the Navy's Officer Cadet program, where after four years, he became a commissioned Naval officer and pilot. He served from Nov. 18, 1949, to June 30, 1960, earning the Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In 1960, he left the Navy and became a math teacher at Pascack Valley High School, Hillsdale. In 1985, he retired from teaching and began a life of fun and travel with his beloved wife, Lola.

He was a devoted husband and excellent father to his children. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Also surviving are sons, Gary and his wife, Diane; Brian and his wife, Maryanne; and Eric and his wife, Chinmi; a daughter, Karen Fels and her husband, Paul; a brother, Andrew Zintel and his wife, Joanne; and eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Gary Jr., Jaclyn, Carl, Anna, Jimmy, Jamie and Casey.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, 564 Easton Turnpike, Hamlin, with services by the Rev. Beth Haynes. Interment with military honors, Elmhurst Memorial Park.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel.
