Gasparo "Gasper" Mendicino

Gasparo "Gasper" Mendicino of Moscow, passed away suddenly Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y. His wife is the former Lynn Rinaldoni.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Antonio Mendicino and Rosaria Bonacci. Gasper was a first- generation Italian who received his high school education at Scranton Technical High School.

With the help of his supportive family and dedicated wife, Gasper built a successful business in the same communities he chose to raise his family, Moscow and Covington Twp. Mendicino's Pizza & Family Restaurant reflects his insatiable work ethic, love for community and lifelong mission to provide the most he could for his family while also giving back where it was needed. The business has had 30 years of success and growth with the help of Gasper's attributes and his dedicated employees, establishing the business as a staple in the community and in the lives of many families within it. Furthering his success, Gasper added to his business legacy with Mendicino's Italian Specialities and Due Amici Artigianale. Both of these additions were started with his best friend (amici), Salvatore Amendola. Gasper believed that if you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.

Gasper did not have time for traditional hobbies, so he filled his free time with what he truly felt mattered in life: quality time with family and friends. Gasper loved anything that allowed him to spend time with the people he considered "his." A Johnny Walker Black at Mendicino's bar with friends, a meal out with his family (starting with every appetizer on the menu), his annual summer vacation to the beach with family and friends, and big bear hugs and laughs were just a few of the things he cherished most in life. Gasper lived life to the fullest and knew what mattered most, leaving everyone who knew him full with special memories.

Gasper is the foundation that a family was built on. A strong foundation that has made it so his family will never go a day without thinking of him and cherishing all he did to make their lives what they are today.

He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Minisink Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and the San Mango D'Aquino Mutual Benefit Society.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sara and Christine, both of Moscow; a son, Antonio, at home; two sisters, Victoria Cicco and husband, Luigi, Scott Twp.; and Almida Wilson and husband, William, Roaring Brook Twp.; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Church St., Moscow, with the Rev. Robert Simon, pastor, as celebrant. Everyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church.

Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Pocono Food Pantry, P.O. Box 250, Moscow, PA 18444; or to the Minisink Lions Club, P.O. Box 1092, Moscow, PA 18444.
