Raymond P. Zalewski, 69, passed away Jan. 8, 2021, at Regional Hospital of Scranton from complications of COVID-19.
Born Oct. 7, 1951, son of the late Frank G. Zalewski and the late Bertha S. Karvotski Zalewski, he was a resident of Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center for the past 19 years. Before an accident in 1982 that left him permanently disabled, he enjoyed many exciting life experiences. He traveled through Canada and Western U.S. and even worked for several years on the Alaska railroad. He settled in Lewiston, Idaho, before his accident.
Ray's passion was country music and he had the opportunity to attend many concerts in the area as well as to satisfy a lifelong wish to see country music stars and the Hall of Fame of Country Music in Nashville, Tenn. At the Ryman Theater, he had the joy of meeting the celebrities, Wynonna, Minnie Pearl and Kellie Pickler.
Raymond was a loving father, son, brother and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Zalewski, of Eugene, Oregon; sisters, Carol Hampson and husband, Jim, New Bern, N.C.; Elaine Bevilacqua and husband, Vince, Factoryville, Pa.; Christine Aung-Din and husband, Ken, Jacksonville, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by infant twin sons, Raymond Jr. and Randall; a brother, Frank Zalewski Jr.; a sister, June McCarthy; and a brother-in-law, Jack McCarthy.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lackawanna Health and Rehab Center for their loving care of Raymond during his residency and the staff at Regional Hospital for the compassionate care.
There will be no public viewing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City, celebrated by Monsignor Patrick Pratico, pastor. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City.
