Remembering a wonderfully inspiring, kind and compassionate professor. His first lecture to us as medical students was fascinating and involved sea squirts and evolution. A very sad loss for his family, friends, medicine and science. Helen ( student in late 1980s)

I am so sorry to hear this news. Grimley was a fantastic mentor and supporter both to myself and the Professions Allied to Medicine. Love and thoughts to his family. Sallie Lamb.

I shared a room with Grimley in 1955 in St John's College, and indeed a joint lab in the Psychology Part II degree, 1958 he was invariably straight reliable and helpful. In recent years he told and re-told his reasons for abandoning a psychiatric career such a mix up there, which I'm still finding a tussle to sort out. He was recently so grateful when I added a few words to a psychiatric problem he sent me very touching.
So many questions I still want to ask him he reinforced my views on Vit B12, which has had a material effect on my alertness. And, last but certainly not least, he stepped up to the mark when I was afflicted by the GMC we visited him at his home, and he was so helpful.
Much missed

Grimley was incredibly knowledgeable and wonderfully kind, always tolerant of our many wrong notes and awful intonation, sometimes even complimentary! We will all miss him.
