Bower, Thomas
Thomas W. Bower St. Clair Township Thomas W. Bower, age 69, of St. Clair Township, passed away on March 25, 2015, in Naples, Florida, unexpectedly. He was born January 17, 1946, in Detroit, to the late Melvin and Ilah Bower. He married Heather M. Thorner on July 26, 1980, in Grosse Pointe. He graduated from Ferris State University in 1969 with a degree in Education, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Tom retired from AAA Insurance, after 40 years of service. He was a board member of Child Abuse and Neglect Council, a member of the St. Clair Golf Club, was on the Marysville School Board, for 18 years and past Marysville Rotarian. Tom took great pleasure in spending his time giving and helping others. Tom's community involvement was endless. He was always seeking out those in need, particularly children. His philosophy was he never wanted a child to go without. Over the past five years Tom took great enjoyment and spent every Wednesday morning working in Sara's classroom with her second grade class. He ran a reading book club with the kids and they looked forward to him coming each Wednesday. Tom was loved by all and you could not avoid being positively impacted by his infectious smile and laugh which always lit up a room. Tom always greeted you with a firm handshake and a super bear hug. He treated everyone the same regardless of their background. Fun was had by all while you were in his presence. Once you met him you knew you had a friend for life. There was not another more devoted to his wife, children and family. His life revolved around them and he was never happier than when he could spend time with his children and his precious granddaughter Finley. He is survived by his wife, Heather M. Bower of St. Clair Township; daughter, Sara (Nick) Kawala; son, Thomas A. (Amanda Craven) Bower; granddaughter, Finley Kawala, and another granddaughter due in August; brother, Ken and Doris Bower; brother in law, Mark (Ina Herzer) Thorner; nieces and nephews, Mathew and Jahna Bower, Julie and Scott Sekella, Laurie and Jeff Lindsay, Greg and Casey Thorner; along with several great nieces and nephews; and his grand dogs, Viva and Vegas. He was preceded in death by a niece, Katie Adams Langley. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, at 11:00 am in the Jowett Funeral Home at 1634 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron. Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate. Visiting will be Wednesday, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again Thursday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family has request a donation to the St. Clair Golf Club Restoration Fund. One of Tom's greatest love was his time spent at St Clair Golf Club. Tom began caddying as a young man and has been an actively involved member his entire life. Having chosen to live on the course he began each day very early enjoying the view of the Fifteenth hole.
