Smith, Carol  
Carol L. Smith Ft. Gratiot Carol Lee Smith, 78, of Ft. Gratiot passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 in McLaren Port Huron Hospital. She was March 23, 1938 in Port Huron to the late Frederick and Harriet "Betty" Langs.born   She married Jay A. Smith on June 20, 1964 in Port Huron. Carol graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a teaching degree in 1960 and worked for Port Huron Public Schools retiring in 1995.  She was a member of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church and its women's groups and also of the Red Hat Society.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Jay; two daughters, Lisa (Colin) Miller and Sara (Andy) Wade; six grandchildren, Ryan (Kristin) Miller and Evan and Carlee Miller, Jacob (Crystal) Wade and Ian and Bradley Wade; several nieces and nephews; and a brother in law, Jerry Ticknor.  She is preceded in death by three sisters, Janette Willhite, Nancy Ticknor and Sharon Yonka. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Lakeshore Presbyterian Church with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.  Pastor Bill Davis will officiate. Whipple, James  
James Atlee Whipple Emmett Twp James Atlee Whipple, 80, of Emmett Twp., died Tuesday, June 21, 2016. He was born July 12, 1935 in Stark County, Ohio to the late George W. and Esther Whipple. He married Carol J. Rausch on June 2, 1957 in Mineral City, Ohio. She died November 18, 2003. Mr. Whipple graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio. He graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. He taught school for 30 years in Ohio and Port Huron, retiring in 1986. Jim served with the United Church of Christ Board of Homeland Missions in the Ozarks and Green Mts. of Vermont in 1961-62. He was a member of the Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary and was named volunteer of the year in 2000 and was employed as Director of Volunteer Services, retiring in 2008. He was a member of Port Huron Hospital Foundation Beacon Society, served as co-chair of the Festival of Trees for two years, volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Center and was a member of NEA, OEA, MEA and PHEA. Jim was also a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Port Huron and most currently St. John's Lutheran Church, Capac. He is survived by his brother, David A. (Marjorie) Whipple of Maine; nephew, Mark Wayne of Ohio; special friends, Ronald and Joan Hartson, Ronald Jr. and Candace Hartson, Bruce Schashko; and many friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Capac with visiting from 9 a.m. until the service time. The Rev. Sarah Flatt will officiate. Busch, Olivia  
Olivia J. Busch Olivia Josephine Busch passed peacefully in the arms of her loving parents on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. She was born October 1, 2015, in Detroit, to Robert J. and Amanda L. Busch. Olivia was a true miracle who touched the lives of all her family and friends. She was so incredibly strong; a fighter with a calm, gentle spirit. She taught us all so much about life in the eight months we were blessed to have her. She is survived by her parents; twin brother, Brayden; grandparents, Jim and Kelly Busch, Patrice and Glenn Lottner, and Walter and Connie Kettlewell; great grandparents, Luci Hency, Carol Busch and Marlene Wilks; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family. She was preceded in death by great grandparents, Robert and Josephine Thompson, Lyle Wilks and Robert Busch; and uncle, Michael Robert Kettlewell.    Visitation will be from 6-9 pm Friday in Marysville Funeral Home. Olivia will lie in state from 10:30 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am Saturday, June 25, 2016, in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Olivia's parents who plan to make a donation to assist in caring for the children in the pediatric ICU at Children's Hospital of Michigan.
