Daniel James Caughel
Danny, age 70, passed away on July 28, 2013 in Henry Ford Hospital surrounded by his immediate family and many members of his extended family. He was born to Cecil and Ila (Rourke) Caughel on October 20, 1942 in Goodells, MI. A veteran of the Vietnam War
, Danny enlisted in the Navy in 1961, retired in 1981 and was a lifetime member of the VFW
. In 1989, after traveling the world, he landed in Sterling, MI amongst remote wooded and rolling hills, just as he and his wife had always dreamed of. Danny was also an electronics technician for Anderson Radio in Saginaw, MI from 1988 until 2009.
Danny loved being in nature (especially anywhere near water), fishing, gardening and tinkering with electronics, machinery and building/carpentry projects. Danny was a hard-working servant and loyal source of joy, comfort and strength to his friends and especially to his extended family. Danny provided faithfully and diligently for his children and grandchildren, and was madly and deeply head-over-heels in love with the love of his life for every moment of their 47 year marriage.
Danny is survived by his wife Annie (Hein); his children Heather, james and IlaAnn (Bryce); his grandchildren Katrina, IlaMae, Cade, Evangeline and Allannah; his "adopted" children and grandchildren Kacey, Heidi, Rylee, and Renae Bentley; family friend Frank Mahon; siblings Walter (Norma Jean), Gary (Chris), Lyle (Deb), Roy (Kathy); brothers- and sisters-in-law Sue, Margaret, Joe (Carol), Frank (Peggy), Leo (Mary) and Eleanore (Steve); several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Cecil, his mother Ila, his sister Carolyn, his brothers-in-law Frank and Buck, his mother-in-law Easter and his stepmother Emma.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 1, 2013 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the R. O. Savage Funeral Chapel in Standish, MI. The funeral service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church (423 W Cedar St) in Standish. Daniel will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until service time. Burial will be at the Clayton Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.
