Donald L. "Uncle Don" Bassett

Donald L. "Uncle Don" Bassett Marine City Donald L. "Uncle Don" Bassett, 86, entered into Eternal Life on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. He was born in Marine City on March 27, 1925, a son to the late Raymond and Elsie (Smith) Bassett. He married Margaret H. Argitis on July 27, 1950 in St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Marine City. Don attended Marine City High School, served his country faithfully during WW II as a seabee in the U.S. Navy and was a member of Local 25, Heat and Frost Insulators. He was also a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Marine City, for 61 years and sang in the church choir for 50 years. "Uncle Don" was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed baseball with the Detroit Tigers and the Marine City Maroons. He was a past commander in the Marine City V.F.W. and enjoyed fishing and telling stories. Don was also the self-proclaimed St. Clair County euchre champion. Surviving are his wife, Margaret; daughter, Karen A. Bassett; dear friends, Randy Smith, Harley and Rosa; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald and Elton; and sisters, Esther Roehl and Elda Bassett. Services are Friday 11 a.m. in St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Marine City, with Pastor Troy G. Waite officiating and Don's family will receive visitors in Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City, on Thursday 2 - 8 p.m. and in the church on Friday 10 - 11 a.m. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the church or to the wishes of the family.
