Gerald "Bud" Rose
Gerald "Bud" Rose, 86, of Emmett Township, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
He was born April 5, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Richard Edward and Mary Catherine Rose.
His marriage to Dorothy Jean Pattillo was May 7, 1949 at First United Methodist Church in Port Huron. Dorothy passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011.
During his service in the U.S. Navy
during World War II
, Bud served aboard the USS Jason in the Pacific theater. Bud then worked for the Detroit Edison Company until retiring in 1988.
He was a longtime and faithful member of the Church of Believers in Yale. Bud loved to serve, along side his wife of 62 years, in assisting missionaries abroad, as well as community and neighbors alike.
Bud also enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, flying airplanes, motorcycling, snowmobiling, woodworking, traveling and camping.
He was a member of American Legion Post# 320 and the Blue Water Sportsman Association.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy (Dennis) Clark of Minnesota; two sons and daughters-in-law, Steven "Buck" (Cathy) Rose of Fort Gratiot and Jerry (Patti) Rose of New York; 13 grandchildren, Jason, Justin, Brian and Adam Rose, Amanda Morey Schultz, Matthew and Bradley Morey, Aron (Julie), Zachary (Angela) and Gabriel (Lindsey) Clark, David Rose, Laura (Josiah) Travis and Katelyn Rose; 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Shirley Ellis, Eleanor Walker, Marilyn (Jim) Rumley, brother Arnold (Pat) Rose, brother-in-law Stanley Simpson, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Simpson, and brothers-in-law, Ed Ellis, Bob Walker, George Shivers, James Shivers and Charles Pattillo.
Bud's family honors his memory and invites you to visit and share memories Monday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Yale, with a service of remembrance at 6:00 p.m. led by a grandson-in-law Pastor Josiah Travis. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Martin Lutheran Church, 805 Chestnut St., Port Huron with 10:00 a.m. visiting. Mr. Phil LaGore, pastor of Church of Believers, Yale, will officiate. Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township. Memorials are suggested to "Wounded Warrior Project".
A memorial luncheon will be held at the church following burial.
