Herbert L. Covert Sr., 86, of Lake Wales, Florida died Monday, May 12, 2014 in Good Shepherd Hospice, Sebring, Florida.

He was born February 10, 1928 in Mt. Freedom, New Jersey to the late Tom and Edna Covert and moved to Lake Wales 35 years ago from St. Clair, Michigan.  He was a retired maintenance man for St. Clair Rubber in Marysville.  He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the May O'Brien V.F.W. Post #8465 in Port Huron.  He was a member of Lakes Wales Lutheran Church and formerly of Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Huron.

Herb is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lillian; a son, Herbert L. Covert Jr. of Marine City; four daughters, Theresa (Larry) Collinge of Port Huron, Patricia, Ruth, and Darcey; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.   He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jacqueline Stone; a sister Loretta Shauger; and three brothers, John, Lawrence and Bill Covert.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday in Smith Family Funeral Home-North.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron with visitation starting at 12:00 noon.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fort Gratiot.  Pallbearers will be Jeff and Jacob Smith, Larry Collinge, Carl Semph, Mark Schmidt and Brandon Gregg. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Veterans Honor Guard Alliance of Michigan.       www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com
