James J. "Pete" Beckett

James J. "Pete" Beckett East China Township James J. "Pete" Beckett, 60, of East China Township, entered Eternal Life on Saturday, March 17, 2012. He was born in St. Clair, a son to the late Richard Lee and Shirley Rose (DuChene) Beckett, on December 9, 1951. He married Laura Lynn MacKenzie on December 28, 1977 in Port Huron. Pete was employed as a boilermaker and completed 30 years of service with Local 169. He served his country faithfully as a member of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and had been a member of the Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood cutting and trap shooting and he was known locally for his welding and fabrication abilities. Mr. Beckett is survived by his wife, Laura; sons, Joseph Peter Beckett and Benjamin M. Beckett; his sisters, Carol (Jesse) Seczawa of Marine City and Cindy (Bill) Merrill of Midland; brothers, Mike of Port Huron and Rick and Steve of Algonac; nieces and nephews; and his best friend, McGyver. Pete was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Tim and Sam Beckett. Services will take place on Thursday 12 noon Mass in Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City, with The Reverend Frederick A. Bodde presiding. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Marine City. Pete's family will welcome visitors in Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City, on Wednesday from 2 P.M. to 8 p.m. and in the church on Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
