Jerry D. Smeckert

Jerry D. Smeckert Lexington Jerry D. Smeckert, age 77, of Lexington, went home to God on Thursday, February 14, 2013. He is survived by his loving wife Fran, his best friend of 55 years, his devoted son Dennis, and his brother Ted (Judy) Smeckert. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Elmer and Lillian Smeckert, and his brother Bob. Jerry served his country as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army Airborne Unit. He was a barber for many years. Jerry went on to become a contractor, building and remodeling homes for pleasure. He was always there to lend a hand and worked long hard hours to help out and provide his knowledge and experience to family and friends. In 2004, Jerry and Fran returned to Lexington where there was always a job to do or someone who needed help. He worked for the Sanilac County Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to the homebound. He loved the Red Wings, Michigan football, camping, and a good book. He will be missed by all that had the pleasure to know him. Travel well Jerry. Visitation will be Tuesday February 19 from 1-3 p.m. at the Lexington United Methodist Church, with service to follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers for Jerry, donations may be directed to the Lexington United Methodist Church roof fund, or to the wishes of the family.
