Leon J. Baker
Former Port Huron area resident, Leon J. Baker 68, of Samaria, MI, son of Gaylord A. Baker and Pauline A. Baker (Port Huron) passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013 in his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Leon was born November 10, 1944 in Port Huron and graduated from the Marysville High School Class of 1963.
He served four years in Lhe U.S.A.F. Honorably Discharged in 1966.
Trooper Baker qraduated from the Michigan State Police Academy in January 1968 and retired after thirty-four years of service. He Married Bonnie J. Bachman (Port Huron) in 1968 and they were parents of daughters, Michele (Brent) Turvey (Penn.) and Kimberly (Christopher) Fargo (Ohio).
After retirement, Officer Baker was re-employed by the Luna Pier,MI. Police Dept., again retiring in 2012 after ten additional yearsof law enforcement service. His highlights in service was delivering a baby girl alongside the road in 1983, and later beinginvited as her guest of honor at her wedding. He was Awarded thePolice Officer of the Year by the Monroe Exchange Club, Monroe, MI, for his years of faithful and dedicated service.
Leon enjoyed the comfort of his home life, his family, his church,and his cabin in Northern Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; two daughters; six grand-children; mother, Pauline Baker; brother, Terry G. Baker; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceeded in death by his father, Gaylord A. Baker.
Arrangements by the Pawlik Funeral Home, Temperance, MI, visiting hours November 1st. 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, funeral services November 2nd, 11:00 AM. Leon will be laid to rest at the Bedford Memoriar Cemetery, Samaria, MI.
