Robert Grant Collins

Robert Grant Collins Formerly of Emmett Robert Grant Collins, 96, formerly of Emmett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2011, in Florida, following a brief illness. He was born in San Diego, CA on April 7, 1915, a son to the late Daniel and Euphemia (Cody) Collins. He married Mary Ruth Mills on May 25, 1940 in St. Louis, MO and she preceded him in death on March 6, 1992. Grant was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Emmett where he was an usher for many years and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Chrysler Corporation, Centerline, MI and operated the Collins Egg Factory in Emmett. Surviving are his wife of eleven years, Ann Williams; sons, Robert (Sheila) and Richard (Barbara) both of Port Huron, and Mark (Barbara) of Kimball and Thomas (Cynthia) of Marine City; daughters, Ruth (Jim Mehrtens) Rankin and Mary (Jim Gunnare) Doughty, both of Florida; brother, Jerry (Bonnie) of Macomb; sisters, Catherine O'Grady of Detroit, Margaret Hebel of Richmond and Mary Roseann Lewenetz of Port Huron; 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Grant was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ruth; infant daughter, Marsha; 2 brothers (sisters-in-law), James (Josephine) and Patrick (Dolores); sister (brother-in-law), Eleanore (Raymond) Shafer; sister-in-law, Mary Collins; and brothers-in-law, Joseph O'Grady and Robert Hebel. In Thanksgiving of a life well lived, a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 11 A.M. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Emmett, with The Reverend Brian K. Cokonougher presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Grant's family will receive visitors in Kammeraad Funeral Home, Memphis, on Friday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and in the church on Saturday from 10:30 - 11 a.m. Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the church, Mid-City Nutrition Program in Port Huron, or to the donor's choice. www.kammeraadfuneralhome.com
