Rev. Patricia Ann VanWormer

Port Huron

 Rev. Patricia Ann VanWormer, 65, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at her home with her family by her side.

Patricia was born on November 27, 1948 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Herman K. Clark and Garnet E. (Arndt) Clark of Port Huron.  She graduated from Melvindale High School in 1966.  She enjoyed many summers in Wisconsin at her aunt and uncle's farm. She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis P. VanWormer on August 2, 1969. Pat received a B.A. from The University of Michigan in 1970.

Pat was a member with the Jaycettes including serving as the State President of the Michigan Jaycee Auxiliary.  Through this service, she became involved with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and while volunteering, Pat correctly concluded that she herself suffered from Multiple Sclerosis.

In 1988, Patricia became an active clergy who was given a church assignment through the United Methodist Church.  She graduated in 1991 with a Masters of Divinity from United Theological Seminary. In June 1991, she was assigned to Capac First and Zion United Methodist Churches.

Pat was a member of several lineage societies.  She served as Chapter Regent of the Stoney Creek Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was recently approved for membership in the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Pat is survived in addition to her mother by her dearest husband of 45 years, Dennis VanWormer; her daughter, Kelly (Gerald Schnepp) VanWormer of Port Huron and her two sons, Matthew (Melissa) VanWormer of Emmett and Jeffrey (Gabriel) VanWormer of Beverly Hills; three granddaughters, Morgan, Myka and Molly VanWormer; and her brother, Larry Clark of Washington D.C.  She is also survived by family and many dear friends.

Her family honors the memory of Pat and invites you to visit and share memories Tuesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Capac.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with 10:00 a.m. visitation at First United Methodist Church, 828 Lapeer Avenue, Port Huron.  Rev. Judith May will officiate.  Burial will be in Christian Memorial Gardens West Cemetery, Rochester Hills.

Patricia wished that donations be made in her honor to the Daughters of the American Revolution (Treasurer General, NSDAR).
