John Ernest Whitican
John Ernest Whitican, a loving father, grandfather and WWII veteran went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2013.
John was born on August 27, 1922 in Port Huron to the late Temple and Mary Irene Whitican. He graduated from Port Huron High School in 1941.
He proudly served his Country during WWII achieving the rank of Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army 36th Signal Heavy Construction Battalion. He participated in five major battles: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, the Rhine, and Central Europe. He was recently awarded the American Theater Ribbon EAME, with five bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and marksmanship.
He married the love of his life, Lucille Scott on March 17, 1946. She passed away April 18, 2010 after 64 years of marriage.
Mr. Whitican was employed with Michigan Bell Telephone for 41 years and was a member of the Michigan Bell Pioneers. He was a long time member of Lakeshore Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his devoted daughters, Nancy (Chuck) Dalton of Douglasville, Georgia, Jean (Ed) Baker of Macon, Georgia, and Sue Simmons of Jonesboro, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Ed Baker Jr., Jennifer (Christopher) Jones, Sarah Bennett, Gina (Justin) Harn, Jonathan (Heather) Dalton, Adam, Laura, and Lucas Simmons; two great granddaughters, Caroline Bennett and Stella Harn; his brother, Kenneth of Port Huron and brother-in-law, James (Delores) Scott of Springfield, Missouri; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Richard and Robert; three sisters, Dorothy, Margaret, and Erma Jean; sister-in-law Elaine Whitican and brother-in-law Harold Eugene Scott.
Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013 in Lakeshore Presbyterian Church. The Reverend William Wingrove will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ed Baker, Jr., Doug Bauman, Jonathan Dalton, Christopher Jones, Adam Simmons and Lucas Simmons.
Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

I've never met Mr Whitican. But after reading his obituary, I sincerly believe he is definitely
