Mr. Shirley H. "Chief" Edie, 90, of Zephyrhills, Florida formerly of Fort Gratiot, passed away on May 5, 2013 in Florida Hospital after a short illness.

He was born on May 18, 1923 in Fort Gratiot, son of the William and Eva Edie.

Shirley married Dorothy I. Hodge on October 30, 1943 in Port Huron. She passed away on January 1, 2000.

He served in the United States Army. Shirley retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and attended St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Dade City, Florida. Shirley was an active member many years ago with the Community Chest and he was a co-founder of the Blue Water Federal Credit Union and was past president and director. Shirley was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, National Association of Letter Carriers and a member of NARFE. Mr. and Mrs. Edie were owners and operators of Edie's produce in Fort Gratiot for many years and he loved gardening. Shirley was also very active in the Sleepy Hollow Mobile Home Park Community for over 35 years.

Shirley is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Leona Edie of Fort Gratiot; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Wysocki of Port Huron; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Denny Swoffer of Kimball Twp.; daughter, Betty Sherlock of Kimball Twp.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Edie of Highland, MI; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, John Jex of Fort Gratiot; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Jean Hodge of AZ; a special friend, Anne Desroches and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Theodore Edie and a son-in-law, C.M. Sherlock, Sr.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Grace Episcopal Church, 1213 Sixth Street, Port Huron. Priest in Charge Lydia A. Speller of Grace Episcopal Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Friday 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Jowett Funeral Home, 1634 Lapeer Ave. at 17th Street, Port Huron and Saturday 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. in the church.

Pallbearers will be Ed McCabe, Dennis Swoffer, Todd Pack, Terry Thompson, Doug Jenkins, Jason McCabe, Tony Holt and Brian Thompson.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Fire and Rescue of Zephyrhills, Florida; St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Dade City, Florida, Grace Episcopal Church or .

St. Clair County Allied Veterans will conduct Military Honors for the inurnment.
