Theodore R. "Ted" Long

Mio

Theodore R. "Ted" Long, age 92, of Mio, MI, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Services, Fairview, MI. Ted was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 19, 1921, a son of the late Jane (Talarico) and Frank Long. He married Shirley Arline (Wodtke) Long on July 9, 1945. Ted was a WWII Navy Veteran. He worked as a Union Steeplejack Painter and helped paint the original Blue Water Bridge at Port Huron. He retired in 1983 and moved to Mio in 1994. Ted was an avid hunter, fisherman and  gardener, and loved baking his legendary pasties and Christmas cookies.  He spent his last 2 years among his many new friends and caregivers at The Wellspring Lutheran Center. The family also extends deep appreciation to Dr. Thad Jackson, Mercy Hospice of Grayling, and his faithful longtime friends. 

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Shirley A. Long; children: Pam Bullins of Florida, Ted F. Long of Grayling, MI and his wife Marian, and Greg Long of Fort Gratiot, MI; three grandchildren: Timothy, Danny and Shanna; and two great grandchildren: Makenna and Maklane. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Danny, who died in 1967, and his siblings: Bill, Beverly, Marion and Frank.

In accordance with Ted's wishes, cremation has taken place, A shared memorial gathering will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at The Home at Wellspring Lutheran Center, Fairview.
