Irene Stuewer Obituary
Irene V. Stuewer

Port Huron

Irene Veronica Stuewer, 98, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Manor Assisted Living.

She was born September 11, 1915 in Emmett, Michigan to the late George and Helen (Treloff) Flowers.

Mrs. Stuewer was a lifelong homemaker who lived in her own home until physical limitations slowed her mobility.  Although in assisted living, her mind remained as sharp as ever.  She enjoyed her crossword puzzles and television as much as her steadily declining eyesight would allow in recent years.  She was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers and all baseball in general.

Irene and Merlin Stuewer, both of Capac, were married August 30, 1935.   They had two children.  Her husband, Merlin, preceded her in death in 2000 and her daughter, Veronica Carolan, in 2013.

She is survived by a son, Frederick (Donna) Stuewer of Kenockee Township; six grandchildren, Karl (Annette) Stuewer of Clyde Township, Lori (Todd) Stank of North Street, John (Cathy) Stuewer of Fort Gratiot, Cheryl Stuewer of Kimball, Kelly (Kevin) McKiney and Lesley Quigley, both of St. Louis, Missouri, and step granddaughter, Alesia (James) Simons of Kimball; plus eight great grandchildren. Also important in her life were her son in law, Tim Carolan of Chesterfield, Missouri; Kathleen Johnston of Port Huron Township; and definitely all of those that provided for her well-being at The Manor

She also has one remaining cousin, Walter (Cornelia) Hilton of Tucson, Arizona age 93.

Cremation has taken place as she wished and burial will be next to Merlin in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron.

Her memorial service will be held at a later date.  Memorials may be made to Saint Martin Lutheran Church, 805 Chestnut Street, Port Huron, Michigan  48060 or Blue Water Hospice, 1430 Military Street, Port Huron, 48060.

Final arrangements through Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron.
