Doris K. (Barr) Pochodylo, 84, of Port Huron, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

She was born on September 19, 1929 in Yale, and was the seventh of eight children born to William and Sarah Barr. Doris was a 1947 graduate of Yale High School and a 1951 graduate of the Hurley Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Port Huron Hospital for 25 years, serving as a Registered Nurse and Nursing Supervisor. Doris married Andrew Pochodylo Jr. on August 4, 1951 in Port Huron.

Whether she was roller skating or twirling a baton in her youth, helping others, raising her family, or surviving two battles with cancer, Doris did so with humor, kindness and great perseverance. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, serving multiple terms as both an Elder and Deacon. She also enjoyed her years of membership in the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

Doris is survived by her husband of 62 years, Andrew, and four children: Kay (Stephen) Presby of Bloomfield Township, Mark (Carol) Pochodylo of Dublin, OH, James (Kristine) Pochodylo of Penfield, NY, and Ann (Charles) Teasley of Cumming, GA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Amy, Laura and Julie Pochodylo, Alex and Elena Pochodylo, and Drew and Dylan Teasley; her brother William (Patricia) Barr of Novi; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers-in-law Francis (Dale) Ball, Elsie (Winston) Widdows, Helen (Ernie) Spicer, and Jeanne Barr; and her brothers Stephen and James Barr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 in First Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Jason Pittman will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 in the church.

Pallbearers will be Mark, James and Max Pochodylo, William Barr, Stephen Presby and Charles Teasley.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church - Deacon's Fund or SandCastles - grief support program for children and families.
