Albert "Bob" R. Socha

Somers CT

Albert "Bob" R. Socha, Captain CEC, USN Ret., age 81, entered into Eternal Rest peacefully at his home on Friday, July 4, 2014 with his loving family by his side. He was born the son of the late Albert, Sr. and Bertha (Urban) Socha in Columbus, OH on October 9, 1932, relocating to MI where he was raised in Port Huron. He attended Marysville High School, Port Huron Junior College, furthering his education with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan Tech, where he was a member of the Theta-Tau Fraternity, and a Masters degree in Business Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA. On September 11, 1954, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marguerite "Peg" Marcero, to whom he was married for nearly 60 years. Bob loved his country and honorably served 25 years in the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps, retiring with the rank of Captain. He served two tours during the Vietnam Conflict and was awarded the Bronze Star amongst many other honorable commendations. Bob and his family lived in Mystic for 16 years, later making Somers their permanent home for over 20 years, where he was a member of the Somers Lions Club and Nutmeg Miata Club. Bob was a true outdoorsman with a great passion for canoeing and fishing, but his greatest joy in life was his family, and there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for any one of them.

Besides his wife, Peg, Bob will be sorely missed by his five children, Linda A. Socha of Somers, Nancy C. Scudieri and her fiancé, Thomas Baker, of Clermont, FL, Rebecca J. Hilbig and her husband, Rolf, of Holland, MA, Eileen C. Seagrave and her husband, John, of Somers, and Robert C. Socha and his wife, Diane, of Somers; eight grandchildren, Erin Dumas, John Seagrave, Jr., Amanda Cross and her husband, Donald, Samantha Seagrave, Chelsea Socha, Heather Socha, Christopher Socha and Lindsey Socha; and one great-grandchild, Carter R. Cross. He is further survived by his sister, Marilyn Kowalchuk and her husband, Stephen, of Bear, DE; a sister-in-law, Nancy Marcero; his cat, "Happy"; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his best friend and brother-in-law, Clarence A. "Sonny" Marcero, Jr; and a son-in-law, Dennis Scudieri.

Funeral services for Bob will be held on Friday, July 11th beginning with a procession from Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, at 9:00 a.m. to All Saints Church, 28 School St., Somers, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Somers Center Cemetery. Bob's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, July 10th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to the World Cancer Research Fund, 1759 R St. NW, Washington, D.C., 20009 or to Vitas Hospice, 628 Hebron Ave., Bldg 2, Suite 300, Glastonbury, CT, 06033.
