Age 92, died July 11, 2014 at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, MI. She was born November 17, 1921 in Huron County, MI, the daughter of William and Clara (Jacobs) O'Conner. Upon graduating from Bad Axe High School she attended Central Michigan University where she met her husband of 41 years, Kenneth, who preceded her in death in 1981. Together they had three daughters, Sandra (Hank) Naasko of Ann Arbor, MI, Sharon (Dale Stoy) Wuest of Minocqua, WI, and Sally (Joe) Bernbeck of Saline, MI. During WWII, she heeded the call of Rosie the Riveter and worked in a Saginaw factory making triggers. Dorothy completed her Bachelor's Degree at Wayne State University and Master's Degree at Eastern Michigan University. She began her teaching career in Avoca, Michigan, in a one-room schoolhouse and later taught many years in the Port Huron Public Schools. After retiring she spent the winters in Bradenton, Florida, and the summers in Minocqua, Wisconsin. She was an avid bridge, euchre, and pinochle player and an expert seamstress who also enjoyed crocheting. Not only did she medal in cribbage at the Senior Olympics, but she was widely admired for her pie making.
She was especially fond of her grandchildren, Aaron Kraft, Jeremy Kraft, Becky Lenz, Petr Rice, Lara Rice, Robin Ficke, Sarah Naasko, Heidi Naasko, and Rachel Naasko, and her fifteen great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the St. Felix Church in Kinde, MI, with Rev. Fr. Robert Pare Celebrant. Burial will take place following the service in the St. Felix Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the
