Edna L. Barrett, 87, of Fort Gratiot, died July 15 at Marwood Manor in Port Huron.
Eddy was born in Snyder, TX on Sept. 13, 1926 -- the daughter of Sydney and Edna Henson Stover. She was a graduate of Draughon's College in Abilene and later studied at American University in Washington, DC.
She was employed at the Pentagon in Washington from 1945 to 1948 and later moved to Groton, MA and then Grand Blanc, MI. In 1964, she moved to Port Huron, where she lived the remainder of her life. She worked at St. Clair County Community College and at the Port Huron Social Security office from 1965 to 1971. Later she worked as a Realtor for Home Towne Realty.
Eddy enjoyed traveling, dancing, card games and spending time with friends and family. She was proud of her one daughter and six sons.
Eddy was an active member of the Port Huron community, serving with such organizations as the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, Cornerstone Club, Port Huron Hospital Foundation, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and the Intuitions Investment Club. She was also a volunteer with the Port Huron Museum and the Michigan Summer Olympics. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Abilene and Washington. And a former member of the Port Huron Golf Club and the Black River Country Club.
Eddy is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Charles) Wanninger of Port Huron. And five sons: Mark (Kristin) Blood of Hudson, MA; Matthew (Cynthia) Youngblood of Mobile, AL; Christopher (Bee-Ching Tan) Blood of San Diego, CA; Timothy (Georgia Miller) Blood of Mercer Island, WA; and James Blood of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Jordan (Jennifer Street) Schrader of Olympia, WA, Sydney and Roberta Blood of Mercer Island, WA and Amanda and Jennifer Youngblood of Mobile, AL.
Edna is also survived by her close friend and companion, Mark Older of Fort Gratiot.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Paul Barrett of Georgetown, TX; and her only sister, Norma Reed of St. Louis.
A memorial and celebration of Eddy's life will be held Saturday, July 26th at 3 PM in the Smith Family Funeral Home - North, 1525 Hancock Street. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 2 PM in the funeral home.
