John W. "Jack" Schoen

Greenwood Township,

John W. "Jack" Schoen, age 83, of Greenwood Township, passed away on July 20, 2014, in Port Huron Hospital, after a peaceful passage to meet his Lord, surrounded by the family he loved and cherished.

Jack was born on August 7, 1930, in Grosse Pointe. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Eberwein, still "his bride" after 61 years, on April 18, 1953, in Detroit.

He served his country for 44 years in the Army National Guard and Reserves, earning his Expert Infantry Badge, at the age of 54. He also worked for Michigan Bell for 34 years. He lived in Greenwood Township for 41 years, in the house he built, on the farm he loved, longtime member of the Greenwood Township Planning Commission. He was a lifelong Lutheran, who served God first, family second and believed God would handle the rest! He had a great sense of humor, which he kept right up to his final moments. Being the outstanding, energetic person he was, he accomplished much more than this space allows. His passing will leave a huge whole in the lives of many.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, son, Daniel (Vicki) Schoen, daughter, Linda (Richard) Conrad, daughter-in-law, Carol Schoen, grandchildren; Fred (Trish), Jeremy (Tracy), Rebecca Schoen, Amanda (Bob) Maitland, Sarah, Marsha and Nicole Schoen, Richard, Daniel, Thomas and Molly (Dave Mamps) Conrad, several great grandchildren and beloved dog, Sparkie.

He was preceded in death by son, Thomas Schoen on December 29, 2013.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Emanuel Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church - 11089 Yale Road, Yale. Pastor Joel Neuman will officiate. Visiting will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.

Memorial tributes can be made to the wishes of the family or Emanuel Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church.
