Port Huron

 Brian J. Moeller, 59, of Port Huron, passed away to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 29, 2014,  in McLaren Port Huron Hospital.

He was born February 21, 1955, in Port Huron, the son of the late Frank and Mabel Moeller. He married the love of his life, Diane L. Kemp on June 26, 1976, in Port Huron.  

Mr. Moeller was a graduate of Port Huron High School and St. Clair County Community College. He earned his B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Grand Valley State University and his Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University.

He was a 25 year veteran of Port Huron Police Department, retiring as Captain, and the most decorated police officer in the history of the City of Port Huron. He served as an investigator for the State of Michigan Senate Majority and later was an unemployment fraud investigator for the State of Michigan, retiring in January 2014. He was also adjunct faculty at St. Clair County Community College.

Mr. Moeller was mayor of the City of Port Huron from 2007 to 2009, was elected to subsequent city councils since 2009 and was currently serving as councilman.

Brian is proudly recognized as an active community leader but his true devotion and priority lied with his wife, children and grandsons. He served 14 years as Fort Gratiot Little League President, where he proudly coached all four of his adult children's teams. He was an avid hunter where he enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Diane L. Moeller; his children, Brian Nicholas (Jessica) Moeller of Burtchville, Matthew J. (Charity) Moeller of Port Huron, Katie Mae Moeller of Harrison Township, Alissa L. (David) Burge of Port Huron, Brayden B. Moeller, Wyatt D. Moeller, Christopher J. Moeller and Isaac M. Moeller, all of Port Huron; two grandsons, Brendan J. Moeller and Morgan B. Moeller  both of Port Huron; three brothers, Frank (Jean) Moeller of Algonquin, IL, Ronald (Norma) Moeller of Clyde, and Gerald (Ann) Moeller of Fort Gratiot; a sister, Evelyn (Eugene) Blythe of Royal Palm Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Sylvia Moeller of Burtchville;  his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ray and Joyce Kemp of Port Huron and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Larry Moeller.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Ross Bible Church with visitation from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. The Reverend Phil Whetstone will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Harrington, Steve Harrington, Jim Miller, Bob Crawford, Cliff Schrader and Ben Woodburn.

Memorials may be made to the Moeller Children Fund at Talmer Bank or New Life Christian Academy.
