R. Douglas "Doug" Smith Jr. Port Huron R. Douglas "Doug" Smith Jr., 54, passed on November 1, 2012 at his winter home in Fort Pierce, FL. He was born March 30, 1958 in Port Huron, and was a life-long resident. Doug is survived by his parents, Robert "Rod" and Colleen Smith, his sisters, Linda Mills and Janet (Mark) Knust, a niece, Kelly Knust, a nephew, Kevin Knust, and was preceded in death by a nephew, Brian Kuehn. Other survivors include his aunts, Jean King (John) Chorostecki and Marion Smith, and cousins, JoAnn Westrick, Rebecca (Jim) Beebe, Charles Smith, Jeffery (Nancy) Smith, and Kathleen (John) Buttrell. Doug graduated from Port Huron Central High School in 1976 and later received his associates degree from SC4. He was employed for many years at Marysville Marine Distributors and later started an internet company, Marine Parts Source. Doug loved being on the water. As a young boy he fished and canoed in Black River, moved on to water skiing (with skis and barefoot), sail boarding, and then to his ultimate accomplishment, kite boarding. His many friends shared the love of water sports with him. Visitation will be on Monday, November 19, 2012 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock St. from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A service in Doug's memory will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. preceded by one hour of visitation. Jeff Beckett will officiate. His Florida friends gathered at the ocean in Fort Pierce on Saturday, November 10th for a celebration of his life. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Kinney Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Doug's memory to the Blue Water River Walk project (make checks payable to Community Foundation of St. Clair County) or the .
