Jacob S. Stencel Croswell Jacob Stanley Stencel, age 92, of Croswell died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 9, 2013. He was born July 4, 1920 in River Rouge, Mi. to the late John and Agnes Stencel. He moved to Croswell with his family when he was 10 years old. He married the love of his life Catherine Marie Degel on April 29, 1944 and would have celebrated his 69th wedding anniversary in April. He began full-time farming in 1947 and dedicated his entire life to dairy farming and growing cash crops. Jake was a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Association for over 35 years. He was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Croswell and an active member of the Mens and Ushers Club. Jake was a founding member of both St. Patrick Credit Union and the church building fund. Jake was a big fan of polka music and helped organize polka dances to raise money for the church. Jake loved life and his children. He is survived by his loving wife Kate, 3 sons and 4 daughters, Kathleen (Alan) LaRose of Fremont Ca., JoAnn (Don) Jablonski of Vassar, Jacob (Marylou) Stencel of Warren, Mark (Kim) Stencel of Croswell, Steven (Peggy) Stencel of Troy, Mary (Dan) Unger of St. Clair, Christine (Dave) Miller of Brighton. 17 grandchildren, Jacob (Margaret), Candius (Christopher), Renee (Christopher), Greg, Nick, Jeff (Becky), Nathan, Meghan, Keegan, Logan, Jaclyn, Steven, Nicole, Jennifer, Bryan, Matthew and Brad. 6 great grandchildren Sammy, David, Alexis, Jonathon, Jacob and Jackson. Also survived by his sister Lucille (Kent) Freeland of Croswell, brothers George (Shirley) Stencel of Wentzville, Mo. and John (Carol) Stencel of Bloomfield Hills. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Rosalie (John) Mlocek and Maryann Stencel. Visitation will be from 2-9 on Monday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell. A Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Croswell with visiting at the church from 10-11. Fr. Robert P. Schikora will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Jake may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation.
