Dorothy E. McLean Ft. Gratiot Dorothy E. McLean, 84, died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Port Huron Hospital, after a short illness, surrounded by her loving children. She was born July 19, 1928 in Cottrellville Township to the late Joseph, Sr. and Emma Bachler. Mrs. McLean graduated from Holy Cross High School, attended Marygrove College and MSU before earning a Bachelor's Degree from Bethel College. She began her sales career at Bachler's Electric. She joined Bachler Real Estate as a sales associate and later became the owner/broker. After "escaping" to Cudjoe Key, FL, Dorothy developed & sold the Stopover Deli & Grocery before becoming the manager at First Title of the Florida Keys. Upon returning to Michigan, she continued in sales via title company management and real estate. She worked with St. Clair County Community College as Coordinator of Community & Business Services and Baker College, Port Huron Campus as Director of Business & Professional Services. Mrs. McLean was a successful Legal Shield(R) (formerly Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.) Independent Associate. For fun, she joined Macy's in 2006 as "the Candy Lady" and the rest is history. Mrs. McLean was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who worked diligently for her community. She served on committees for the Greater Port Huron Area Chamber of Commerce, chairing the BbR Networking committee (sharing the honor of "Most Valuable Member" in 2005); was honored as a "Woman of Distinction" by the Girl Scouts, Michigan Waterways Council in 2006; served with Port Huron Hospital Foundation, Business & Professional Committee and chair of the Thomas Edison Awards Task Force. She was past president of Blue Water Counseling and served on its board. She was an enthusiastic member of the Rotary Club of Fort Gratiot (named twice as a Paul Harris Fellow!) for several years. She was a member and past president of the Hi-Noon Toastmasters and earned an Advanced Toastmaster Gold Designation. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by four sons, Norbert (Sandra) Gallagher, John McLean, Patrick McLean, and Michael (Laurinda) McLean; two daughters, Anne (Steven Mayer, fiancée) Whaling and Katherine (Tom) Wynne-Jones; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Bachler, Jr.; a sister in law, Molly Bachler; many nieces and nephews; and her dear girlfriends at Macy's. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Robyn McLean; a brother, Richard Bachler; and a sister in law, Mary Bachler. A service will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, March 9, 2013 in Our Lady On The River Holy Cross Church, 610 S. Water Street, Marine City with visiting starting at 11:00 a.m. Father Fred Bodde will be officiating. Bring your favorite "Dorothy story!" Memorials may be made in Mrs. McLean's honor to Rotary Club of Fort Gratiot College Scholarship Fund, Blue Water Counseling or Port Huron Hospital Foundation.
