Port Huron

Ronald Claire Reed, 86, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 20, 2013.

He was born September 8, 1926 in Port Huron to the late Lynn and Gertrude Reed.  He married Mary Evelyn "Ev" Cargill on January 14, 1947 in Port Huron.  She died December 4, 2010, after 63 years of marriage.

Ron served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II.  He worked 22 years as an Estimator at Mueller Brass Co. and 18 years as a teacher for Richmond Public Schools.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Port Huron.  He was an avid golfer, which included a hole in one.  He also enjoyed traveling, painting and music.

He is survived by his loving family, five daughters, Carol (Gary) Severn of Grosse Pointe Park, Nancy (Scott) Dixon of Chillicothe, Ohio, Janet (John) Schneider of Ft. Gratiot, Kathy (Ken) Willard of Yale and Patricia (Nelson) Finley of Ft. Gratiot; two sons, Ronald David (Diane) Reed and Dennis (Cathy) Reed all of Ft. Gratiot; 23 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Virginia and Helena Reed; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Smith Family Funeral Home-North.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2013 in Smith Family Funeral Home-North, 1525 Hancock Street, Port Huron with visiting starting at 10:00 a.m.  Reverend Dan Bakay of First Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.  Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.

Memorials may be made in Ron's honor to First Baptist Church, Port Huron.

We would like to acknowledge the loving care given by the staff at Barss Residential Care during his last few months.
