Bernard J. "Barney" Sherwood

Kimball Township

Bernard J. "Barney" Sherwood, age 79, of Kimball Township died July 7, 2013 in Blue Water Hospice Home after a short illness.  He was born July 28, 1933 in Marysville and was a lifelong area resident.  He married Margaret A. Jones on March 13, 1959 in Port Huron.  She preceded him in death on April 27, 2003.  Barney served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.  He retired from Mueller Brass after 37 years.  Barney enjoyed horses, off road vehicles, and watching westerns and fight sports.

He is survived by his sons, Bryan Sherwood and Bernard "Jim" (Sonya) Sherwood II, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his dog Rusty.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Effie Young.

A funeral service will take place at 11 AM Thursday in the Smith Family Funeral Home - South, 1230 7th Street with The Rev. Max Amstutz officiating.  A graveside committal service will follow under the auspices of the St. Clair County Honor Guard.  Pallbearers will be Kevin Caryl, Delbert Ruck, Lorny Miller, Matt Graham, Larry Bade, and Logan Sherwood. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 PM, and on Thursday beginning at 10 AM.  Memorials may be made to the Blue Water Area Humane Society.  www.smithfamilyfuneralhome.com.
