Memories and Condolences
for Dorothy Corbett

Not sure what to say?

This tribute popped up again in my phone alerts. I would like to reiterate that Dorothy was a gift to all who knew her. She was a true Southern lady, gifted as an English teacher, and always spoke her truth. She was an excellent role model for students and colleagues. The world needs more Dorothys.

She will always be Mrs. Lee to those of us that went to Cummings in the 80's. What a fantastic teacher. I loved English because of her. More over, she was a fantastic LADY. A true southern lady in every sense of the word. Always, always, always the picture of poise and grace. Mrs. Lee you made a lasting impression on my life.

Dorothy was one of my colleagues at CHS. She was a role model for me and her students. She had high expectations and would not accept mediocrity. Her son, Antoine, was one of my students and he has exemplary character...obviously, the acorn doesn't fall from the tree. I am so very sorry to hear of her death. She was such a gifted person.

Dorothy was a very good friend and classmate at Bennett College '67. She was always so pleasant and cheerful. Her sister took a picture of us at our 45th reunion in 2012 to show her because she could not attend due to her illness. When I spoke with her by phone the following week, she was still so upbeat and wanted to now how she could send a contribution for our class to Bennett. After graduation, we did not interact often, but when we did it was such a joy to be in her presence. We will miss her and always remember her. My sincere condolences to the family.

She never liked us to use "good" or "great" as an adjective, it had to be "congenial" or "marvelous", not "red" but "crimson"; I still use this today. My prayers are with the family. Remember all of the exceptional times and memories you have and she will never be away from your heart and minds. Be blessed!

Mrs. Lee/Corbett was a wonderful teacher, role model and counselor to so many. She made you believe that you could be whatever you wanted to be, as long as you tried. A woman who taught girls to be ladies and boys to be men. She commanded respect and taught us how to respect ourselves, as well as others. She was truly one of God's angels and will truly be missed!

To the family, I pray you find peace in knowing that Mrs. Lee/Corbett's living was not in vain. I also pray that God eases the pain your hearts may feel and gives you the strength to endure.
