Brown, James Bobby* - New Bern  
NEW BERN, NC - Mr. James Bobby Brown, 83, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2016, at his home. A native of Lee County, NC, Bobby was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and retired from AT&T after 33 years as an engineer. He was an avid birder, enjoyed golfing and was a scout leader for many years. After he retired to New Bern, Bobby could be found working tirelessly in his yard, for his enjoyment and that of all the birds flocking to his feeders. Graveside services, with the Rev. Angel Lorton officiating, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force. The family will have a celebration of Bobby's life at their home on Saturday, May 7, 2016. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Ashley Patel, and husband Raj, Megan Ingervick and husband Kevin, and Eden Lenk; and two great- grandchildren, Remington and Kimber Ingervick and another on the way. Baker, Jane Neaman* - Tampa  
Mrs. Jane Neaman Baker, 95, died April 23, 2016. A native of Tonawanda, NY, she was the daughter of Clara Hartel Neaman and Herman Neaman, both deceased, and the wife of Emerson A. Luther and Robert F. Baker, both deceased. She was a member of First Christian Church and Peninsular Christian Church of Tampa, Fla. She is survived by her children, Paul Luther Baker, David Wilke Baker and Claire Baker Friedman; grandchildren, Robert Friedman, Janie Friedman, and Loren Phipps; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Phipps. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 2, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Pine Hill Cemetery, Burlington, NC.

Byrd, Mattie "Pat"*  
YANCEYVILLE - Mrs. Mattie "Pat" Byrd, 92, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 9:50 p.m. A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of the late Boyd Bryant Byrd Sr. and the daughter of James Lundy Oakley and Viola Kimbro Oakley, both deceased. She attended Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Kelley and husband Mike of Mebane; two sons, Donald Byrd and wife Cathy of Burlington and Boyd Byrd Jr. of Graham; daughter-in-law, Susan Perdue of Yanceyville; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Mansfield and husband Lloyd of Burlington; and two brothers, J. L. "Jake" Oakley and wife Helen of Burlington and Gene Oakley and wife Joyce of Yanceyville. She was preceded in death by three sons, Eddie Byrd, Kenneth Byrd and Neal Byrd; daughter, Peggy Cornell; grandson, William Byrd; three brothers, Clyde Oakley, Tom Oakley and Hubert Oakley; son-in-law, Tommy Cornell; and daughter-in-law, Michelle Byrd. The funeral service will be conducted at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 3 p.m. by Elder David Underwood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church. The family will also greet friends at her home on Friday, April 29, 2016, after 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to Bush Arbor Cemetery Fund, c/o Susan Newcomb, 909 Oakview Loop Road, Yanceyville, NC 27379 or to Caswell County Meals-on- Wheels.
