McBroom, Adean Covington*  
GREEN LEVEL - Mrs. Adean Covington McBroom, 99, of 2553 Green Level Church Rd., transitioned in her home on September 26, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Preston Covington and the late Hattie Hester Covington and the wife of the late Jasper McBroom. Surviving are her two children, Hattie M. Clough and William McBroom. Funeral services are 12 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Green Level Christian Church with the family greeting relatives and friends one hour prior to the services, and other times the family will be at the home. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Professional services are entrusted to Sharpe Funeral Home, Inc.

Michaels, Alfred Colon*  
BURLINGTON – Mr. Alfred Colon Michaels, 79, of Burlington died at the Brian Center in Yanceyville, NC on Tuesday, September 27, 2016. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Shelby Michaels, who survives and the son of Clarence Colon Michaels and Georgia Hunter Michaels, both deceased. Mr. Michaels was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He was a member of the Haw River American Legion where he formerly served as Commander. Mr. Michaels retired as a construction worker with Campbell Construction. After retirement, he worked at Byrd's Food Stores and Copland Fabrics. In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include a daughter, Wanda Anderson and husband Rick of Orlando, FL; three step-children, Amy Eastwood, Tammy Murray and Penny Simmons, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and a brother, Johnnie Michaels of Burlington. The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. Dan Ficklin. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Condolences may be offered at www.richandthompson.com .

LEASBURG, NC – Leona Simmons Mise, age 83 of Leasburg, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, September 27, 2016. She was born to the late Porter Gold Simmons and Minnie Terrell Simmons on November 7, 1932. She was a lifelong resident of Caswell County. She was a Seamstress, a member of Baynes Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Mise; brother, Billy Simmons; sisters Alice Harrison, Dorothy Herndon and Claudia Clayton; daughter Jannie Carol Reagan; grandson Nathan Harrell and step-son Michael Mise. She is survived by her children Debra Stikeleather (Gene) of Mebane, NC; Meleody Gusler (Bill) of Elon, NC; Peggy Barfield (Travis) of Yanceyville, NC; Pam Reagan of Butner, NC; James Reagan Jr. (Diane) of Yanceyville, NC; Bryon Reagan (Donna) of Leasburg, NC; Melissa Wells (Dwight) of Burlington, NC and Carolyn Denise Reagan-Parliman of the home. Three step children James Mise of Buffalo NY, Robin Mise of Mebane, NC and Dennis Mise of Leasburg. 12 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. Sisters, Mildred Davis of Asheboro and Elsie Overman of Burlington, NC; brother Clifton Simmons, Jimmy Simmons (Cheryl) and Gilbert Simmons (Anne) all of Anderson, NC. And by her special friend Martha Scott, who made going to town an adventure. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 a.m. at Union United Methodist Church. Morton, Jane Sullivan* - Burlington  
BURLINGTON - Jane Sullivan Morton, 72, died September 24, 2016, at UNC Health Care in Hillsborough following complications from cancer treatment. A graveside service will be held this Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Alamance Memorial Park. Janie was born July 19, 1944, to the late Thomas J. and Mary Sullivan and lived most of her life in Burlington. She was a graduate of Walter Williams High School there and earned a degree in accounting, cum laude, from Elon University. She worked in the Division of Education at Elon for nearly a decade before joining the staff of the University of North Carolina General Administration in 1992. She rose through the ranks there and served as executive assistant to UNC Presidents Molly Broad and Erskine Bowles before retiring from the University in 2007. Janie's large extended family and many friends knew her as an extraordinary person who was reliably sunny. She was loyal, generous, kind, and brave in the face of adversity. She is survived by daughter Michelle Morton of Burlington; son Jason Morton (Dana) and grandchildren Fletcher and Colby, all of Boulder, CO; and former spouse Frankie Morton of Burlington. Also surviving are five siblings, Richard Sullivan (Kay) of Burlington, Betsy Mooney of Elon, Daniel Sullivan (Sherry) of Centreville, VA, Timothy Sullivan of Burlington, Erin Musser (John) of Wilmington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Judith Sullivan of Burlington, and her brother Thomas Sullivan of Asheboro. The family will receive friends to celebrate Janie's life at the home of Sandy & Geoffrey Russell, 601 Truitt Drive in Elon, following the graveside service. CHAPEL HILL - Alton Ray "Buddy" Maynard, 75, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at his home. He was born in Durham, the son of the late Alton Wingate Maynard and the late Zelda Ray Maynard. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Louise Dearmond, Shirley Joan Fuquay and Norma Jean Carlton. Buddy was a truck driver for McLean Trucking Co. and worked in Graphic Arts. Buddy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Ferguson Maynard; daughter, Beth Maynard; son, Win Maynard (Denise); brother-in-law, John Ferguson (Bridget); sister, Gloria Maynard May (Terry); and grandchildren, Daniel Maynard (Kristen), Alex Maynard, Katelyn Maynard, Garrett Clapp, Josie Clapp and Emerson Maynard. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Sunday, September 24th, 2016 at his home with Pastor Manley Palmer Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at his home. The family is being assisted by Clements Funeral Service, Inc. in Durham. McKinney, Sarah Dorothy B. "Dot"*  
BURLINGTON – Mrs. Sarah Dorothy B. "Dot" McKinney, 89, of 2402 Old Trail Road, Burlington died at her residence on Thursday, September 22, 2016. A native of Orange County, she was the wife of 69 years to Hassel Lee McKinney, Sr., who survives and the daughter of Perry Bradley and Myrtle Ledbetter Bradley, both deceased. Mrs. McKinney retired from Western Electric/ Lucent Technologies. She loved her grandsons and gardening. In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include her son, Lee McKinney, Jr. and wife Becky of Oak Ridge; two grandchildren, Brandon McKinney of Granger, IN and Corey McKinney of Charleston, SC; and one sister, Marjorie Harris of Mebane. Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by two sisters, Elma Lee Fresh- water and Mary Mixon and a brother, Wilber Bradley. A graveside service will be conducted at Alamance Memorial Park on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at 2 p.m. At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence. Mise Sr., James Albert*  
YANCEYVILLE - James Albert Mise, Sr. of 6462 N.C. Highway 86 S, suddenly passed away at Alamance Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born in Caswell County, December 17, 1936 to William Henry and Roberta Cobb Mise. Educated in Caswell County Schools, he was employed by General Electric Company. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, and served as former Treasurer and Deacon. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1955 til 1957. James was an avid woodworker. In the last few years he had focused on stain glass. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church and military graveside rites will be offered by the local American Legion and VFW Members. Survivors are wife Faye Thompson Mise of the home, two sons, James Mise Jr. (Jay) and Robert Mise, sister Mamie Mise Briggs and four grandchildren. James was predeceased by his parents, a brother William Mise and sister Ruby Mise Church. The family will receive friends and relatives Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Service Chapel and at other times at his residence. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, c/o Traci Coleman, 95 Mary Jane Bigelow Road, Yanceyville, N.C. 27379.
