Page, Melvin Thomas*  
ELON - Melvin Thomas Page, 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014. He was a native of Caswell County and the husband of 57 years to Betty Lou Oakley Page, who survives. Melvin retired from Alamance Knit Fabrics after many years. He graduated from Anderson High School and attended Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church for many years. Melvin was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and will always be remembered for his smile and gentle nature. Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Oakley Page, of the home; daughters, Penny Page O'Brien of Durham, Tracy Page Greene and husband Rodney of Elon and Christy Page Winnell and husband Trevor of Raleigh; son, Timothy "Tim" Page and wife Sandra of Caswell County; grandchildren, Michelle, Caroline and Kimberly O'Brien, Josh Page, Whitney and McKenzie Greene and Kaitlyn Winnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas "Tommy" and Sally Page; brothers, Lynn and Loften Page; and sisters, Lucy Page and Carrie Moore. The funeral service will be conducted Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church by Elder David Underwood and the Rev. Darrell Massey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and at other times at the home. Payne, Evelyn Faulkner Hensley*  
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Evelyn Faulkner Hensley Payne, 88, of 2830 Bedford St., passed away at 9:09 PM, Saturday, November 22, 2014, at Augusta Health Center in Fishersville, VA. A native of Alamance County, she was born July 2, 1926, she was the wife of the late Howard Anderson Hensley and Joseph Randall Payne, and the daughter of the late William Ira Faulkner and Alyne Carpenter Faulkner. Mrs. Payne was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church, a Life Member of the Women's Society, and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a charter member of the Garden Gate Garden Club and held all offices in the club. She shared her talents with her friends for weddings and church functions. Mrs. Payne held a position with Kay-Day-Morton Interiors as an interior decorator for 25 years. Surviving are three sons, Andy Hensley (Betty) of Charlotte, Randall Lee Hensley (Mary Ann) of Chapin, SC and William Brent Hensley (Kay) of Myrtle Beach, SC; a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Hensley McElveen of Staunton, VA; eight grandchildren, Meg Reynolds, Sarah McElveen, Wesley McElveen, Emily McElveen, Ryan Harris, Chris Harris, Samantha DeLancy and Michelle Harward; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Faydean Mann of Tallahassee, FL. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Keith Faulkner and a step-son, David Mark Payne. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, at Front Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Wittman and Dr. William Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Heritage Room from 1-2 PM, prior to the service. Mrs. Payne may be viewed at Rich & Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington from 9:00-12:00 noon on Tuesday. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Builder's Sunday School Class. Phillips, Mr. L. Harold*  
Mr. L. Harold Phillips, 83, of Graham, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at his home after several years of declining health. A native of Alamance County, Mr. Phillips was the husband of Wilma Hall Phillips for 64 years. He was the son of the late George G. Phillips and the late Ola Smith Phillips. Mr. Phillips was retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he served as a Greeter, Trustee, member of the Administrative Board, member of the Pastor Parish Relation Committee, member of the Compassion and Caring Committee and he was a member of Saints Alive. Mr. Phillips was also a member of the Good Sam Camping Club - Alamance Tar Heels. In addition to his wife, Wilma, of the home, Mr. Phillips is survived by his daughter, Kay Thompson, and her husband, Billy, of Graham; his granddaughter, Jennifer Fearrington, and her husband, Kenny, of Graham and three loving great-grandchildren, Hayley, Kenley and Kendel Fearrington. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Irma Newlin, Lois Lloyd and Marie Boggs. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 25, at 3:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Cindy Lister and the Rev. Keith Spake. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6:00 until 8:00, at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham. Other times they will be at the residence. Dr. Michael Poprik Jr., 89, husband of Catherine Fay Allred, formerly of Burlington, died at his home in Fayetteville on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014. The funeral will be at 10:45 Nov. 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fayetteville with burial in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 24 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Puckett Jr., Sebren Luther "S.L."— "Uncle Son"*  
BROWNS SUMMIT - Sebren Luther "S.L." - "Uncle Son" Puckett Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014. He was a native of Guilford County and the husband of 62 years to Norma Webster Puckett, who survives. Sebren retired from Newman Machine Shop and was a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Hawaii during World War II. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, attending many small tracks in the area. Sebren's favorite car maker was a Ford and he loved telling stories to his family and friends of his life experiences. Survivors include his wife, Norma Webster Puckett, of the home; sisters, Lois Pardue of McLeansville and Mary Boyd of Supply; numerous nieces and nephews and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebren Luther Puckett Sr. and Annie Loy Puckett; brothers, Jessie and Billy Puckett; and a sister, Nannie Barrett. A service to celebrate his life will be conducted Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Larry Andrews. Burial will follow, with military honors, in the Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
