GRAHAM - Mr. Alton W. Wilson, 89, of Russell Road, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 10:50 p.m.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of the late Allene Copple Wilson and the son of Leroy Wilson and Nettie Mincey Wilson, both deceased.
Mr. Wilson received his B.S. Degree in Agriculture at N.C. State College. He was a retired educator, beginning his career in 1949 at Eli Whitney School. From 1960 to 1984, he was the Agricultural Teacher at Southern Alamance High School. He later taught at Alamance Community College and Randolph Technical College.
Alton was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was also Scout Master of the Eli Whitney Troop 49, member and past president of the Eli Whitney Ruritan Club and District Governor of the Ruritans. He received a Life Membership Award from the Ruritan Club.
Survivors include a son, Alan L. Wilson and wife Marty of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren, Matthew and Katie Wilson; and sister, Ruth Lowe of Mebane.
The funeral service will be conducted at Mt. Olive Baptist Church on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 10 a.m. by the Rev. David Crowtner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alton W. Wilson Scholarship Fund at Southern Alamance High School, 631 Southern High School Road, Graham, NC 27253.
