Anne Straube Marmorato

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Anne Leona Straube Marmorato, beloved wife to Louis Marmorato for 67 years, and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, passed away peacefully April 26, 2013. She was a resident of Atlantic Shores and member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
At whatever stage of Anne's life, she lived it to the fullest - devotedly loving and supporting her family while enthusiastically making friends along the way. Born in Hoboken, N.J., Feb. 2, 1916, Anne enjoyed her youth and early marriage years in that area until her husband was transferred to Burlington, N.C. While there for 52 years, Anne and Lou lovingly raised four children, made the dearest of friends, managed their careers, enjoyed hobbies, volunteered in numerous organizations, and traveled to their dream destinations both in the USA and abroad.
They relocated to Atlantic Shores in 2000 where they began a new chapter of their lives, enjoying more occasions with their growing family and meeting new friends of their generation. The last two years of her life, Anne was a resident of Seaside. While there she was genuinely admired, dearly loved, and lovingly embraced as a family member by staff and residents, and, most especially, her companion caregiver Claudia Dorrien.
On her 90th birthday Anne said that the single most important event in her life was the day she married her "Lou." This was because all of her other successes, especially their family, were a reflection of the life they had built together. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, caregivers and even acquaintances who witnessed her devotion to her family, personal strength and positive attitude were blessed to have been a part of her life's journey.
The family who will miss Anne most deeply includes her four children and their spouses: Anne and Henry Gregory; Robert and Francine Marmorato; Joan and Bill Barns; and John and Leslie Marmorato. Other family members include six grandchildren: Theresa Gregory Stewart, her husband, Adam, and children, Cecilia and Jillian; Michelle Gregory McGowan and her husband, Johnny; Megan Barns McBride, her husband, Raleigh and son, Kelly; Meryl Barns and her fiancé, Brett Zigila; Angelina Marmorato; and Joey Marmorato.
The family will receive guests at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Monday, April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. A private funeral Mass will be held Tuesday morning. Family, friends, caregivers and all who knew Anne are invited to participate in A Celebration of Her Life on Tuesday, April 30, at Atlantic Shores Anchor Room from 2 to 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Atlantic Shores Employee Gift Fund,
