WINSTON-SALEM -Barbara James, 80, of Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Mrs. James was born October 10, 1932, in Alamance County to the late Paul Lineberry Williams and Willie Mae Ferguson Williams.
She was of the Methodist faith, went to school at Eli Whitney, worked at Western Electric in Burlington and later as a housewife. She enjoyed painting, taking art classes, playing the piano, singing and always had a great love of music and the Lord. In later years, she was an avid reader, enjoyed watching movies and her "soaps." She was very detail-oriented and a brilliant conversationalist. Most important of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Glenn James, and sister, Faye Williams.
Surviving to cherish her memory are two children, a son, Luther Glenn James III and wife, Terri, of Lewisville; a daughter, Denise James Church and husband, Fred, of Kannapolis; four grandchildren, Sean Church, Paul James, Bridget Call and husband, Josh, and Meredith Redding; one brother, Eddie Mark Williams and wife, Ruth of Graham; a niece, Amy Robertson and husband, Fergus, of Hillsborough with two sons, John and Duncan; one nephew, Dr. John Mark Williams and wife, Natalie, of Salt Lake City, Utah, with daughters, Ava and Lucy; and three great-grandchildren, Kierra, Cambria and Vincent Call.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013, at Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington, N.C.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel. Edwin G. Needham will be the presiding minister. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
