MEBANE - Mrs. Barbara Neville Shanklin, 76, of 5223 U.S. 70 West, went to be with her Savior on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at her home, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
A native of Nash County, N.C., she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many. She was retired from the Orange County School System as a teaching assistant with more than 30 years of service at Efland Cheeks Elementary School, where she was very devoted to the children. She was known for her smile, always making other people feel better with just a slight grin. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Mebane.
Survivors include daughter, Stacey S. Widner and friend Rickey Baker of the home; sons, David L. Haith and wife Jody of Mebane and Steven D. Haith and friend Clair Golding of Haw River; grandchildren, Sara H. Smith and husband Chris of Mebane, Jessica D. Haith of Burlington, Amy L. Haith of Haw River and Lauren K. Grant of Mebane; great-grandchildren, Corbin, Daylin, Bridgette and Riley; brother, Charles Thomas Neville of Florida; and special Westie companion, Ollie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Thomas Shanklin; parents, Elishah Thomas Neville and Cora Mae Church Neville; and a sister, June Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Lebanon United Methodist Church cemetery in Mebane by the Rev. Rick Webster.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at McClure Funeral home in Mebane.
