Betty Sykes Chappell

BURLINGTON, N.C. - Betty Sykes Chappell, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at the Homeplace.
She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late James Claiborne Chappell, who died in 2009.
Betty was a former employee of Sykes Supply and she retired from Blue Ridge Hardware. She was a member of Davis Street United Methodist Church. Betty was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended Elon College. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughters, Linda Mitchell and Janice Whitesell both of Burlington, Mary Ann Chappell Lynch and husband Jimmy of Graham; grandson, Warren Martin and wife Janie of Burlington; great-grandchildren, Abbey, Kinsey and Taylor Martin; brother, Lawrence Sykes and wife Ronny of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents, Leroy Page Sykes and Reggie Moran Sykes.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 4 p.m. in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ellen McCubbin and the Rev. Ben Bishop. The entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
