WHITSETT - Mr. Billy Anthony "Smurf" Hopkins, 57, formerly of Durham, departed peacefully from labor to reward Tuesday, March 26, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of Mr. Robert Lindsay Sr. and Mrs. Geraldine H. Lindsay of Whitsett.
He was a member of Clapp's Chapel AMEC but was currently attending Love, Faith and Power Outreach Ministries in Durham, N.C.
Survivors include his parents; daughter, Miss Jemeka Ellis of Salisbury; sisters, Sandra L. Vincent (Karen) of Burlington, Cheryl L. Smith (Reginald) of Greensboro; brothers, Robert Lindsay Jr. (Sherea) of Greensboro and Michael Lindsay (Myrtle) of Lake Waccamaw, N.C.; and granddaughter, Macai Jones of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his biological father, Mr. Delmore Terrell; a daughter, Miss Letisha Jones; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
The public viewing will be today, March 29, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Lawson's Mortuary in Burlington.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2013 at New Beginners Church, 7000 Burlington Road, Whitsett, with the family receiving friends from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service. Burial will follow in Clapp's Chapel AMEC cemetery. At other times, the family will be at his parents' home, 922 Boone Valley Road, Whitsett.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
